Osteopathy for babies

Pregnancy and birth can be challenging for little ones. Parents can sometimes wonder why their baby seems uncomfortable and cranky even when he or she has been fed, changed and is rested. Anything from position in the womb, to details of the final delivery can leave baby with areas of compression and tension in their muscles, cranial membranes and connective tissue. Babies usually express discomfort by crying and not settling or sleeping well.
Excessive crying in babies, may have underlying musculo-skeletal causes such as a tight diaphragm causing discomfort, or tension in the neck muscles from a complicated birth, causing what we would typically describe as a slight headache. Gentle osteopathic techniques can help relax these areas of tension and help baby to feel more comfortable.
Cranial osteopathy is an approach we commonly use to treat areas of discomfort in babies as it is a gentle and subtle way of reducing stresses and strains in the head and body.
